About
HMD originally started out as a DJ in Vancouver, BC (Canada) and created a niche for himself through the release of several underground remix albums. Always a pioneer, HMD found instant success when his first album “Nasha 2000″ spread like wildfire on social music networks like Napster and MSN. This pioneering album fused folk punjabi vocals with hard hitting “westcoast” beats, setting off a frenzy of demand for a whole new genre of music.
Following the success of his first album and the demands of his growing fan base, HMD continued his creative journey with “Totally Tully,” “Totally Tully 2,” and the now classic “Nasha 2012.” This chapter of HMD’s career was marked by a unique style of remixing Punjabi music to appeal to a generation of Punjabi youth who seemed to have lost their way due to a culture clash with Western society. Over the years, HMD continued to develop his identity as an artist and inspired a generation of Indo-Canadian youth to stay true to their roots.
The second chapter of HMD’s career began with a philosophical album known as “Unity Gain,” which contained a higher level of thought and emotion than had ever been presented before in the desi music scene. Touching on philosophical subjects such as god, religion, and spirituality HMD elevated his talent to a whole new level. Providing both raw production and vocals for many of the tracks himself, HMD was successful in expressing his thoughts to a global audience – or as H likes to say “planting a seed for the future.”
The next piece in this ongoing process of artistic development came with 2009′s release of “Mix This,” an album which not only exhibited HMD’s production skills but also his intelligent, socially aware rhymes. In many ways, Unity Gain and Mix This were experimental stepping stones towards a fully developed sound, ideology, and mission. After listening to tracks like “Sand Nigga You Dead,” “Coo Coo Crazy,” or “Born Alone Die Alone” it’s hard not to be left amazed. Not only are the tracks well produced and well thought out, if it wasn’t for the subtle use of Punjabi vocabulary you would never think it’s a Jatt boy on the mic.
HMD’s next work is a compilation of tracks that unify his past, present, and future. Dip Hop Vol. 1 will be releasing this winter exclusively on HMD Records, sending a strong message to people around the globe that we are one family…drops from the same ocean.
Stay tuned…
